ŠKODA Octavia Greenline II Named Top ‘Green’ Small Family Car

The ŠKODA Octavia Hatch Greenline II has won the top honour in the ‘Small Family Car’ category in the Next Green Car Awards 2011.

NextGreenCar.com is one of the UK’s leading green car websites, providing expert and independent information to motorists researching environmentally friendly vehicles.

Available in both hatchback and estate forms, the Octavia GreenLine II offers both fleet and private buyers an effective way of reducing their running costs without compromising on performance or practicality. The cleanest and most fuel efficient Octavia ever made, the GreenLine II is powered by a 1.6 TDI CR 105PS engine that features common rail technology. This engine technology offers many advantages such as quieter running, fewer moving parts and improved performance.

Thanks to a combined fuel consumption figure of 74.3 mpg (hatch) and 67.3 mpg (estate), and CO2 emissions of only 99 g/km (hatch) and 109 g/km (estate), the Octavia GreenLine II is as clean and efficient as cars from the supermini sector, and costs £0 a year to tax (the estate variant is subject to £20 a year road tax from year two).

The judges, led by Dr. Ben Lane, Managing Editor of Next Green Car, commented: “With the new Octavia, ŠKODA continues to excel with a low emission family car that is practical, affordable, with plenty of room inside for five adults to travel comfortably.”

Chris Horrell, ŠKODA UK Product Marketing Manager, commented: “We are delighted to win this award. ŠKODA’s second generation GreenLine product range has been developed to showcase cutting-edge technologies that reduce emissions and keep running costs to a minimum without compromising on the exceptional value for money and high quality for which ŠKODA has become famous.”

The NextGreenCar.com awards are based around the website’s unique Green Car Rating (GCR). This ranks every car out of 100 by examining CO2 and seven other exhaust emissions across the life-cycle of the vehicle. This calculation makes it possible to compare different fuel types/drive-trains on a single scale. The lower the number, the greener the car. The ŠKODA Octavia Hatch 1.6 TDi Greenline II has a GCR of just 28.
